Jewellery and Gem Fair sets record

HONG KONG The Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair became the world’s largest jewellery exhibition when it opened last month, covering 120,000 sqm of exhibition space – a 25% increase on last year.

The event attracted more than 23,200 trade visitors, a record for trade fairs in Hong Kong, said Jimé Essink, president and CEO of organiser UBM Asia. He said: “With the fair’s status as the number one event in the world and the imminent economic recovery, we expect these numbers will increase further, providing a boost to the Hong Kong economy.”

More than 3,000 exhibitors from 44 countries attended the seven-day event, the only exhibition in Hong Kong to use both Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and AsiaWorld-Expo.

Essink added: “Hong Kong combines a central location with a pro-business environment, first-class venues, strong exhibition support services and an enjoyable visitor experience. With a fast-growing market in Asia and the Chinese mainland in particular, we have no doubt there are more shows in Hong Kong which will join UBM Asia’s Jewellery Fair in becoming the world’s number one.”
