HTC Hero Sees Strong Sales Demand

The HTC Hero is enjoying brisk sales in Europe and Asia, but HTC says we'll have to wait until the second half of 2010 to see who actually won the market.

According to DigiTimes, HTC's Vice President of Asia Pacific says that the HTC Hero is currently enjoying brisk sales in the markets in Europe and Asia, causing tight production at HTC. The tight production will not be eased until November and the sales momentum of the HTC Hero is expected to continue in the first quarter of 2010.

HTC believes that the second half of 2010 will reveal who has actually won the market. Despite the increasing number of Android-powered smartphones launched by rival vendors, HTC believes it will continue to maintain its leading position in the Android smartphone segment, buoyed by its expertise related to the integration of touch and wireless communications technologies as well as contents and applications.

Sprint recently released their own version of the HTC Hero, a smartphone that offers a snazzy interface and great Twitter and Facebook integration. Motorola, Samsung and Dell are all preparing new competitors to the popular HTC Hero, however, including the Motorola Cliq, Motorola Droid (with Android 2.0), Samsung Moment and the Dell Streak in the U.S. alone.

Furthermore, a third Android phone from Motorola, the Motorola Calgary, has already been revealed by Boy Genius Report, and Sony Ericsson has yet to announce the Android-powered Sony Ericsson Xperia X3, codenamed Sony Ericsson Rachael.

Needless to say, we're now seeing the explosion of Android smartphones that have been expected since the Open Handset Alliance was announced. When looking at the original member list from 2007, which was already strong back then, there's also no doubt that Android caught almost everyone's attention shortly after. Motorola, an original member, recently even said it would go all in for Android in the next couple of years.
