FAO Schwarz iconic toy stores in New York and Las Vegas always have been a little far for most Americans to shop in. Now that Wayne, N.J.-based Toys "R" Us owns the company (it bought FAO Schwarz in May), the nation's largest toy retailer will open FAO Schwarz boutiques in 585 of it stores nationwide on Sunday, including one at 7800 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston.
The boutiques will feature overhead signs and life-size displays of FAO Schwarz' toy soldier, which stand outside its two standalone stores in New York and Las Vegas.
Toys will range from $2.99 to $64.99, including FAO Schwarz' annual holiday ornament and collectible stuffed teddy bear.
Toys"R"Us also relaunched FAO.com, and the toy giant will continue to publish FAO Schwarz' holiday catalog, which has been around since 1886 and will be sent out beginning Nov. 10.
On ice
Belle Hall Shopping Center off Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant has lost another business. Cold Stone Creamery at 644 Long Point Road now sports a sign on the door that says it closed for "various reasons."
The ice cream specialty shop shut its doors last week, and the phone has been disconnected.
Retail treat
Ghosts, goblins and other costumed creatures can go shop to shop at Citadel Mall and Northwoods Mall on Saturday to collect Halloween treats.
The two malls in West Ashley and North Charleston, respectively, will offer trick-or-treating at participating retailers from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition, Citadel Mall will host a Halloween magic show at 4 p.m.

Saks Fifth Avenue on King Street has partnered with Crisis Ministries to distribute winter coats to those in need through the One Warm Coat network. Through Sunday, customers can bring in gently worn adult coats or men's suits to the store and receive 25 percent off the purchase of a new adult coat or men's suit.
