4 teens charged with vandalizing cars in North Baltimore

A city police officer working overtime security for Johns Hopkins University in North Baltimore arrested four teenagers on East University Parkway early today on charges that they vandalized three cars and a garage by spray-painting them.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said at least one resident called police about 1:40 a.m. and reported that she saw people walking around with a spray can. Police later discovered damage to the rear window of a car, the rear bumper of a car and a garage, all in the 300 block of East University Parkway near the Hopkins campus.

Guglielmi said an officer working for the school overhead the call go out on his radio, responded and saw the teens with the can. Charged with destruction of property and vandalism are Heather Byrd, 18, and 19-year-olds Corrie Anderson, Lila Albano and Cameron Price. All are from the Baltimore area.

Lawmakers at a City Council hearing Wednesday night discussed vandalism and gang activity, but Guglielmi attributed this case to "a Halloween prank."

The vandalism occurred in the same block in which a Johns Hopkins undergraduate used a samurai sword to kill an intruder last month.
