Hitachi Travelstar 5K750 and 7K750

Ever wondered how computer manufacturers manage to fit larger and larger capacity hard drives into mobile computing devices without adding much weight or space? It’s because of companies like Hitachi GST who continues to innovate and release better and more efficient hard drives. Their latest creations are the new Hitachi Travelstar 5K750 and 7K750 2.5-inch hard drives that are based on a high density 375 GB/platter. The former will run at 5,400 RPM and the latter at a much faster 7,200 RPM. In a mere 9.5 mm two-disk design, Hitachi managed to squeeze in 500, 600 and now, an industry’s first, 750 GB worth of data in a single hard drive. Both HDD gets to support Advanced Format, a new technology that increases the physical sector size on hard drives from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes. This increases drive capacities and improves data integrity even at higher storage densities.
The Travelstar 5K750 series is made for those with affordability, reliability and energy efficiency in mind. This 5,400 RPM hard drive offers an 8 MB buffer and a Serial ATA 3Gb/s interface for ultra- fast transfer rates. The Travelstar 5K750 family is rather shy about its energy consumption, using only 0.5 watts when idle and 1.4 watts in read/write operations. This helps increase battery life in notebooks and portable computing devices. It’s also outfitted with 1000G/1ms shock protection against accidental bumps and rough use. The 7K750 on the other hand is all about performance with its 16MB buffer and faster RPM. It uses 1.8 watts that make the most of the battery life without affecting performance. Hitachi exclusive features include Thermal Fly-height Control, TruTrac Technology, and Self and Bulk Data Encryption.
